The Season Ahead...

So, after a truly memorable season and having no less than ten players travel to the World Cup, Spurs fans are eagerly looking forward to next season.  The current squad is looking strong, there’s money in the bank and the manager has the confidence of the board, players and fans, which is a feat in itself whilst in the hot-seat at the Lane.  Harry, Luka and Gareth all signing contract extensions was also great news.  Back off Fergie.

look at that bacon-face!!

Despite relatively little transfer market activity thus far, Spurs have been linked with the usual ridiculously long list of players - one regular 606 poster is actually keeping count and I think we are currently on around 80...madness.

Regarding transfers this summer, there is undoubtedly a handful of fringe players that could well be offloaded, with a view to bringing in one or two in positions that need strengthening.  Keane, Hutton, Jenas and O’Hara will surely move on (and at reasonable prices too), and there are question marks surrounding the likes of Bentley and Pav, who I imagine will only be sold if we receive good offers as both clearly have something to give.

Despite the depth we currently have in our squad, there are two positions that require strengthening – centre half and centre forward.  Harry mentioned last season that he’d like to have the option to play with one centre forward and I tend to agree with him; having that option can only ever be a good thing, particularly away from home against better sides and (fingers crossed) in the Champions League.  At present none of our strikers can really play the ‘lone striker’ role – and as clichéd as it is, we need someone with pace, height and strength to do this.  A centre-back is also required, as at the moment two of our four options are not exactly reliable in terms of injuries.   And no, don’t say we can play Kaboul or Corluka there – we can’t.  Micah Richards anyone...??  I feel like all this guy needs is a move; with the right guidance he could surely go on to great things.

The pre-season friendlies we have coming up are likely to be treated as warm-up games for our Champions League Qualifier in August...I get nervous even typing those five words.

More of the same this season please ‘Arry!
