Young Boys, Crouchy and the draw

So, now that Wednesday's result and yesterday's draw have had time to sink in, it is time to reflect on what Wednesday really means for us Tottenham fans.  Wednesday's game was huge, one of the biggest in our club's history, and it certainly seemed like there were more English football fans hoping we missed our chance, rather than took it.  I don't think I will ever hear as many different variations of "If you lose, I am going to cane you' in one day, ever again.

We didn't miss our chance, far from it.  Young Boys were quite simply blown away by Spurs, seeming completely unable to handle our attack, and offering little to no threat themselves.  Gareth Bale, Huddlestone and Peter Crouch were our three best performers.  Bale was outstanding, laying on all four goals and once again impressing everyone.  Huddlestone showed some moments of real class and his composure and ability to dictate the pace of the game could well prove crucial for us in the tournament itself.  Peter Crouch took the match ball home, netting a hat trick and this display will no doubt have many of the 'Pav over Crouchy' brigade doubling back on themselves.  The Evening Standard saw fit to feature my 606 comments on Crouch and I stand by them:

"Those fans who favour Pav over Crouch for no apparent reason will now be changing their minds.  He works harder, lays on more goals and holds the ball up better than the Russian - and has now scored the goals that put us in fourth spot and also now the Champions Leauge proper."

Whilst I acknowledge that Pav can indeed at times be a goal threat, I stand by my view that he has done nothing to warrant being picked ahead of Crouch.

"Was it the weetabix you had Pete?" "Nah, it was that brass, actually!"

The draw last night was a very tense affair for me, me desperately hoping that we got one of the Italian or Spanish giants.  I wasn't disappointed, and feel that we have as good a chance as Werder and Twente of finishing second.

My flight to Milan and hotel is already booked.

"We're all going on a European tour!!!"
