Blackburn this summer

With less than a month to go before the start of the season, and the Rovers have had their fair share of mentions in the gossip and speculation columns. As has been the case with several sides this summer, we have been linked with what feels like hundreds of players, the vast majority of which clearly being based on not very much at all. That being said, I am sure several Rovers fans will have been disappointed to learn that one of the main targets (according to the papers anyway), Marc Janko, has finally moved to FC Twente.  Despite it being common knowledge that our attack needs strengthening, the midfield area also continues to be something which needs to be improved drastically.

Marc Janko - clearly a 'special' player

In terms of forwards, we have been linked with a broad spectrum of players, ranging from the likes of the legend Raul to lesser-known candidates such as Nicky Maynard, and while Big Sam continues to search, one thing that remains the case is that we need to sell before we buy.  It is rumoured that this summer's transfer kitty amounts to a whopping £2.5m, which falls a long way short of the mark if a genuine goalscorer is what we are after.

Given our current lack of funds, surely the likes of Grella, Chimbonda, Bunn, Zurab and Rigters need to move on in order for us to raise some cash and also slash the current wage bill.  It's not all doom and gloom however, as according to L’Equipe, reports are that we have Gai Assulin and Rodrigo Branco on Trial at the Club.  Fingers crossed.

The other 'gossip' of the summer was regarding the takeover bid. The Rovers are reportedly in negotiations with an Indian Consortium, and while some may be unhappy about this I can only see good coming from it. Mr.Shah wishes to market Blackburn Rovers in India alongside the Cricket League, which is effectively owned by his uncle.  In my view this can only be good in terms of increasing our fan base and sales in merchandise. Though as is the case with all takeovers, there is always that risk that the owner will try to change the identity of the club into something that it is not...

On a Final Note, I thought I would leave my predictions of potential transfers I believe will occur before the close of the window...

In: dos Santos (On Loan), Teymourian (Free), Gai Assulin (Free), Raul or Bance

Out: Zurab (under 1m), Grella, Roberts to West Brom.
