S.A. & 2010/11

The 2009/10 season was a great season for us, we secured our first league and FA cup double and it was all without that Portugese fella at the helm. Carlo Ancelotti was a breath of fresh air and not only did he win games, we won them with style.

After a great season I expected the English Chelsea boys to shine in South Africa.  They didn’t.  Lamps was non-existent in the first 3 games, JT had left his fast twitch muscle fibres at Heathrow and Cole was not the same pacey full back we are used to seeing. Even though we had let Joey Cole go, I still think he deserved more of a chance than he was given, but then Fabla doesn’t even know his spaghetti from his rigatone. I won’t go through each individual performance from the boys in blue but Lampard did himself proud against Germany and did a lot more than the Scouser alongside him. And who can forget John ‘flying fish’ Terry leaping four inches off the ground to head the ball against Slovenia. What a legend!

Chelsea’s transfer tuck shop has been pretty quiet as of yet. Benayoun is a direct replacement for Cole – he is basically an older, uglier version. Despite his unfortunate looks, I think he will be a good squad player and give us the width that we crave on the right. We have also snapped up centre-half Tomas Kalas, a 17yr old hot prospect who some big teams (and Arsenal) were all after, although we can’t utilise his services for another season while he is on loan. Good work Carlo!

I know its unfair Yossi, there there now...

Chelsea doesn’t need a squad overhaul, just one or two additions max to secure that elusive European cup. We got rid of exactly the right players in the summer so we just need to let the fresh crop of youngsters come through rather than sign more has-beens. I am expecting Mancienne, Sinclair, Kakuta, Hutchy and Van Aanholt to step up to the plate this season and give us a future to be excited about. I can’t bear watching Deco in January with 6 layers on anymore, or watching Riccy Carvalho run around like he is a member of Diversity...

The only thing I want for this season is Champions league glory and more importantly…. three points at White Hart Lane.

Up the Chels!!
